Comprehensive Nutrient Management Planning
We offer the expertise necessary to assist producers in the development of comprehensive nutrient management plans (CNMPs), which is a format developed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a division of the United States Department of Agriculture. The Source Group’s staff has prepared CNMPs and provided implementation services to 55 dairies throughout northern California. Of critical importance to the CNMP process, is the implementation of specific items identified in the CNMP. The Source Group offers the expertise to assist producers in the implementation of items identified in the CNMP. For example, SGI has assisted producers with sprinkler calibration activities, land application of solid manure and wastewater, record keeping, evaluation and assessment of analytical data generated at the dairy (i.e., plant tissue, solid manure, irrigation water, and wastewater samples), setting nutrient application rates and timing, and the installation of tail water return systems.
The Source Group staff has also completed CNMPs for the Utah USDA-NRCS and Wisconsin USDA-NRCS. The CNMPs were developed in accordance with each state’s USDA-NRCS Nutrient Management Standard 590, and all other relevant state standards, rules and regulations. The activities include meeting with the NRCS personnel and producers, completing site visits and interviews, developing figures and documents, evaluating the facilities and management practices, and developing implementation plans. The CNMPs were developed for dairy operations throughout the states of Wisconsin and Utah.
